How to use the math equation editor effectively

I'm a math tutor and I've been exploring the equation editor in TutorBoard. After using it for a few weeks, I've discovered some tips that make it much easier to use. Here's what I've learned:

Keyboard Shortcuts

The equation editor supports LaTeX syntax, which makes typing equations much faster. For example, typing \frac{a}{b} creates a fraction, and x^2 creates superscripts. This is much quicker than using the mouse to click through menus.

Using Templates

If you find yourself using the same types of equations repeatedly, you can create templates. I've saved templates for quadratic formulas, integrals, and matrix operations. This saves a lot of time during sessions.

Step-by-Step Solutions

When showing step-by-step solutions, I create each step as a separate equation. This makes it easier for students to follow along, and they can see exactly how each step transforms the equation.

Color Coding

I use different colors to highlight different parts of equations. For example, I'll use blue for the variable we're solving for, and red for constants. This visual distinction helps students understand the structure better.

These tips have made my math tutoring sessions much more efficient. Does anyone else have tricks for using the equation editor? I'm always looking to learn more!
